The Nuvo Zip-Kit Essential Kit is a fully acoustic, compact drum set designed to go wherever your music takes you. Everything packs neatly into the bass drum, making it easy to store, transport, and set up — perfect for home practice, schools, or even for those taking their drumming on the road.

Despite its compact size, it contains all the essential components needed to learn and play drums from first principles, including snare, string-operated hi-hat, kick pedal, practice pad, adjustable stool, and sticks.

Compact, versatile and portable

Featuring an 8” height-adjustable snare, a string-operated 10” hi-hat, 90-degree kick pedal, and adjustable stool, the Essential Kit is ideal for drummers working in small spaces or moving frequently between lessons, rehearsal spaces, or gigs. The included foam mute pad keeps the snare at a comfortable volume for practice without disturbing others, while the two padded backpack-style carry straps make transporting the kit easy and comfortable.

Adjustable and expandable

The Zip-Kit grows with the player. Fully height-adjustable drums and cymbals are suitable for children from 4 years old, right through to adults. Four telescoping posts allow you to add extra toms and cymbals when you’re ready to expand your kit — components you can find here! The kit can also be configured for left-handed players in seconds by repositioning the pedals and hi-hat.

No Problem! The Zip-Kit can be quickly set up for left-handed players by rotating the pedals and set the snare and hi-hat to match.

The story behind the Zip-Kit

Zip-Kit is the brainchild of Dave Wish, Founder of Music Will, a nonprofit organization that has provided free music lessons and instruments to nearly 2,000,000 students across the USA.

“I invented the Zip-Kit so that entire classrooms of kids could learn to play the drums at the same time,” says Dave. “You just can’t do this with regular drum sets – they’re way too loud, too big and too expensive.”

Dave spent years developing the perfect classroom drum set in his basement workshop. After meeting with the folks at NUVO, the Zip-Kit became a reality!

Maintenance tips

Like all Nuvo instruments, all parts of your Zip-Kit can be washed with hot soapy water. The practice pad on the lid may pick up some dust. You can clean it using sticky tape or simply wash down with hot soapy water.

Kick-pedal mechanism

The mechanism includes the primary roller which runs on the stainless steel axle that is secured with a Phillips head screw and an Allen screw. It is possible but unlikely that this will loosen after a lot of use. Please use a PH3 screwdriver and a 5mm Allen wrench to tighten the axle assembly. See Spares and Repairs for diagram. You may also want to lubricate the kick-pedal mechanism from time to time and we suggest you use a spray lubricant such as WD40.
