The tabla is a pair of hand drums originating in the Indian subcontinent, which has featured heavily in Hindustani classical music since the 18th century. These heads are ideally suited to the Percussion Plus PP1101 pair of tabla.
Both heads include the shyahi black central circle which gives the drum harmonic overtones and controls the pitch, the gajra braided outer leather ring used to thread the leather straps which tune the drums and kinar outer rim/skin margin surrounding the shyahi.
The tabla can be played as a solo instrument or in ensemble settings.
The Dayan/treble head has a diameter of 6”, and the Bayan/bass head measures 9” in diameter. Fitting replacement heads requires great skill, players should seek advice before undertaking this task for themselves.
