Introducing the Drums for Schools Bonang beater

The Bonang beater (Pangul) is a hard wood Bonang stick, wound with string at one end with an exposed wooden tip. This type of stick gives a versatility of tone as the softer string takes off a lot of harsh top end frequencies on impact, producing a warm thrum on the Bonang. The exposed wooden tip can be used to introduce bright percussive impacts to the rhythmic patterns played. Such sticks are used in Gamelan ensembles all over Bali.
