Introducing the Drums for Schools 12 note Balafon

Enjoy the authentic sounds of West Africa with this handcrafted 12-note Balafon. Originally from Guinea, the Balafon is a traditional melodic xylophone widely used in African ensembles. Each key is carefully carved and tuned diatonically, offering rich, resonant tones that blend beautifully with other percussion instruments, making it a fabulous addition to any African Drumming ensemble.

Natural gourd resonators mounted beneath the keys create the iconic buzzing timbre that defines traditional West African sound. Although it is tuned diatonically, this Balafon is not always set to the Western C scale, preserving its authentic tonal character.
