These Kendhang drums are of traditional design and feature the characteristic double-ended, gently tapered shape to generate two types of tone. They are usually used in religious ceremonies as well as being an integral part of the Gamelan orchestra.
This drum is usually played on its side, resting in the player’s lap. It can be tuned very easily by sliding up the knots in the leather stringing to add tension, then released off again after a performance. It can be played with a wooden beater in one hand and with the palm and fingertips of the other, or with both hands.
You can also purchase the Balinese drum beater.
