Introducing the Drums for Schools round hair shaman drum

This is a hand-made, goat skin covered Shaman Drum, complete with a double-sided suede and plush covered beater (to give you a range of sounds). This beautiful drum has an impressive deep, resonant tone and is very robust. The drum is very light and easy to carry. It’s perfect for shaman drumming, drumming circles and SEND settings and also makes a lovely large percussion instrument for young children to play together.

How to play

The normal way of playing a Shaman Drum by yourself is to hold the drum by the back ‘strings’ and either play with the fingers of your other hand, or with the beater. This is similar to how you would hold and play a Bodhrán (Irish flat-drum). In Early Years and SEND setting you can also lay the drum flat on the floor and play it from above in which case it would be good to have two soft beaters to play it. This is a great way for children to share the drum and play together.
