These beautifully decorated large egg shakers are made from natural wood and hand-painted with colourful acrylic dot designs inspired by aboriginal art. At 9cm, they are slightly larger than standard shakers, giving them a fuller tone while still being easy for children and adults alike to hold and play.
Gentle in sound and highly tactile, these shakers are perfect for children aged three and upwards. Their soft, soothing tone blends well with other classroom instruments, making them ideal for rhythm practice, group play, or simply adding texture to music sessions.
Egg shakers might seem simple, but they offer surprising versatility. Shake from end to end for one type of tone, or side to side for another. Hold lightly with your fingertips for a bright, sharp sound, or firmly in your palm for a softer effect. Players can also knock two shakers together to create a percussive clap, cupping their hands to change the pitch.
As players grow in confidence, they can experiment with advanced techniques such as controlling the beads’ impact by slightly recoiling at the top of the shake. This gives more precision over timing and texture, and helps young musicians develop coordination that can be applied to other percussion instruments.
